KU vs MU Border Showdown

Real Media was recently commissioned to create a logo animation for the KU versus MU Border Showdown at Arrowhead Stadium. 
The logo was created to run on the Arrowhead Stadium video boards.  The game turned out to be one of the biggest in the historic rivalry of KU and MU football.  The game was broadcast live on ABC.  While preparing for the game the producers from ABC saw the logo animation on the video boards and asked if they could use it in their live broadcast.  Pretty cool! 

They ended up using the logo animation on their game open and during the live game presentation as well.  This was an unexpected Thanksgiving bonus!

University of Kansas Urology

Real Media recently completed work on a project for The University of Kansas Urology Department.  The project incorporates surgery videos, patient testimonials and doctor interviews into an interactive DVD. 

We captured 6 procedures live in the OR at KU Med with two cameras.  The surgeries were shot in 24P with the Panasonic SDX900 cameras.  The surgery videos display the critical aspects of each of the procedures.  The goal was to exhibit the cutting edge technology, experience and overall capability of doctors and residents of the Urology Department at KUMED. 

The project is geared to referring physicians and potential patients.  Real Media produced individual segments on each doctor, each procedure and on three patients as well as an over informational piece.  The final production is slated for delivery on DVD and FLASH for streaming web delivery. 

These guys are the top doctors in their field.  It was amazing to see them work!

Baylor Athletics TV Spots

Real Media recently finished work on several broadcast spots for Baylor University Athletics.  The scope of work included TV spots for Football as well as Men's & Women's Basketball.  The spots were created with the marketing theme "it's more than just a game".   

The football spots were created with a 2D motion graphic feel and feature Floyd Casey Stadium as an event destination for Baylor Football fans.  The spots were branded with baylor colors and the more than just a game tag. The spots where shot in August in the stadium visiting team locker room as well as on the Real Media sound stage.  The challenge was shooting realistic football movement in relatively small area.  We pulled it off with an extensive lighting set-up and then many hours of compositing.

The Men's basketball spots feature a similar look to the football spot only with basketball players.  For this spot we created the Ferrel Center 3D and then converted it to a 2D look.  The Stadium was created to be used as background for the motions graphics and the game highlights.  This section was created to be easily updated by the Baylor Vision production staff.  The spots were shot in September on large bluescreen in the Baylor Basketball practice facility.

Women's Basketball spots featured the team working out in a boot camp type of environment while preparing for the season and games.  The women were shot in fatigues and boots.  The local ROTC was gracious enough to allow us the use of several Humvees to transport the girls from the boot camp to the stadium.  The spot ends with girls walking into the Ferrel Center as a group with Highlights displayed over the shots.  The whole scene was shot over a two day period.

36 Parables

Real Media just finished a VFX project for 36 Parables.  36 Parables is a collection of short films based on the parables of Christ.  The short films were created by a couple of friends of Real Media - Stewart Redwine and John Schimke.  The videos are a great resource for helping people understand the parables of Christ through modern day illustrations.  We were very excited to work on the project and specifically this shot.  Here is the before and after shot with visual effects added.

Demonstrative Animation

Real Media recently finished two demonstrative animation projects for Shook Hardy Bacon.  The animations were created to support litigation efforts in patent infringement cases for both Garmin and Sprint.  Both cases required very quick turnarounds and multiple revisions.

 
In the Garmin vs Tom Tom case, Real Media used a 3D city model, 3D cars and motion graphics to create scenarios to illustrate the patented technology used in Garmin's GPS route calculation technology as well as GPS technology in general.  Six animations were completed in two weeks.

In the Sprint vs Vonage case, Real Media was contracted to create intricate animations to help illustrate Sprint's patented VOIP technology.  3D models, 2D animation and motion graphics were used to illustrate a variety of different scenarios and case studies.

Sprint was awarded $69.5 million by the jury and Vonage later settled for $80 million.   In post trial polling jurors credited the Real Media animations with helping them understand the technology as well as the patent infringement.

Kansas City Chiefs

Real Media just finished a variety of in-game elements for the Kansas City Chiefs. We feel privileged to work with our hometown team.  It's awesome to play a part in creating home field advantage in one of the most storied NFL stadiums in history -  Arrowhead Stadium.   We created several elements for the Chiefs this year including fan prompts, logo loops, backgrounds and sponsor animations. 

One of our favorites this year is the "Chiefs Jukebox".  This is a sponsorship element created to highlight players and local radio stations. Its been very successful.

Many teams are moving away from typical advertising and sponsorships in stadiums.  TV spots in game are becoming a thing of the past.  Now teams are looking to recoup those sponsorship dollars with elements that add to the entertainment value of the game day experience.  It 's a win/win for everyone involved.  Fans no longer have to sit through annoying commercials, teams still have an advertising revenue stream to work with and sponsors are presented in much better light which can only enhance their image and branding efforts if implemented correctly.  That's where Real Media can be a huge a sset to teams and sponsors.

Fighting Illini

Real Media recently completed several projects for the University of Illinois football and Basketball teams.  Illinois came to Real Media for help in creating head shot templates for football and basketball as well as fan prompts and sponsorship elements.  For football, we created a head shot template that highlighted the construction going on in Memorial stadium.  3D elements, effects and sound effects were used to create the template.  Motion tracking information was transfered to After Effects so the Illini production staff could insert player shots and stats.

For Basketball we were asked to create a transformer look.  We sliced and diced the Illinois I and transformed it into another head shot template as well as screen for displaying highlights in the team open.

Again, Real Media provided the AE files to provide the most flexibility to the production staff.

 

Sprint Center/AEG - Kansas City

Real Media is proud to announce our new relationship with the Sprint Center in Kansas City. Real Media has contracted with the Sprint Center / AEG to provide sponsorship animations for all of the video boards throughout the new arena and recently finished 11 animations highlighting the founding sponsors. The project included a total of 77 animations created in a variety of different aspect ratios. The challenge was creating dynamic animations that not only demonstrate the latest video display technology, but that also presents the sponsors’ brand in the best possible light.  The Kansas City Star is posting pictures uploaded from readers that  highlight some of the animations.

Troy University Football

Real Media recently spent a day on location at Fort Rucker Army Aviation Base.

Our crew was on location shooting a football intro for the Troy University Football program. 

We spent a full day shooting the players around two AH-64A Apache Attack Helicopters.  It was incredible getting a behind the scenes look at our military in action.  Fort Rucker is the site where most of the pilot training is done for helicopter pilots.

The Apache is an amazing weapon. 

The training staff at Fort Rucker has pilots certified and combat ready in only 120 hours of flight training.  That is an incredible accomplishment. 

The Troy football open was created around the theme "The Troy Bomb Squad".  Their team features a wide open offense with many weapons.  Shooting the team around the Apache was a perfect fit.

Chicago Bears

Real Media recently finished a Helmet Shuffle game for the Chicago Bears and Dick's Sporting Goods .  This turned out to be fun project for several reasons.

We began the project thinking that we would keep the shuffle game pretty simple.  When we presented the first version to the Bears they asked us to make it much more challenging.  It is very hard to follow now!  The Bears fans are going to have to really pay attention to keep track of which helmet has the ball. 

The other challenge was to create a game that works in the unique aspect ratio of the Bear's video board.  We are very excited to see how the fans react!
